Swordfishing
South
Florida Swordfishing on the O-Sea-D is an experience of a lifetime.
With a four-time tournament Victor, you can be rest-assured the O-Sea-D
crew will do everything possible to hook you up with the Gladiator
of the Sea. O-Sea-D Sportfishing offers Day and Night Swordfishing
excursions.

We fish in depths that range from 800 feet to 1800 feet, 15 miles
off the coast of Fort Lauderdale. Equipped with 50 and 80 Penn Internationals
and fighting belts with or without harnesses, be ready to endure the
grueling and punishing game these fish will deliver. A 2+ hour fight
is typical and the O-Sea-D has caught numerous fish in the 300 to
400 lb range as well as one 550 lb fish. So, it's more than likely,
you'll be passing the rod to your buddies.
Here's
the rundown on what you can expect whether it be Daytime or Nighttime:
Nighttime
Swordfishing
A
45 minute run to the most fertile grounds off the Southeast coast
will put you in the zone. We fish a variety of live and dead baits
depending on what the fish are feeding on with a spread ranging from
500 feet depths to surface baits. A Hydroglow light is used to illuminate
the water and attract bait, etc. We typically fish a spread of 5 or
6 lines depending on wind and current. Nighttime fish tend to be on
the smaller side with most fish averaging 100 lbs; however you can
expect quite a few bites on this type of excursion.
Daytime
Swordfishing
The
O-Sea-D has been very successful at catching these monster during
the day. When we say monsters, we mean these fish are averaging 250
lbs. The smallest fish we've boated to date was a 162 pounder.
Daytime
swordfishing is a recent trend off the Florida coast for many local
sportfisherman. Captain Matt, however, learned the technique in 1997
on a trip to Venezuela. He has been innovative in tweaking his own
strategies and has net with great success.
Totally
different from nighttime swordfishing, we fish only one rod on the
bottom with surface baits for by-catch. There's also a great chance
of hooking a marlin while you're out there during the day! You can
request manual or electric reels depending on your preference - just
remember that bait is a long way down and you'll most likely be taking
turns cranking it back to the surface!
